ensemble is proud to announce 'plus one (part II)', opening on Friday, June 21, 2024, 7-9pm, starting with the work of David L. Johnson (b. 1993, New York, NY), and expanding through additional artworks by each following artist including Emilio Martínez Poppe (b. 1993, Baltimore, MD), Michelle Cho (b.1996, South Korea), Bat-Ami Rivlin (b. 1991, Israel), and Miguel Bendaña (b. 1988, College Station, TX). 'plus one’ opened to the public on May 3, 2024 beginning with the work of Quay Quinn Wolf (b.1989, New York, NY), K.R.M. Mooney (b.1990, Seattle, WA), SoiL Thornton (b.1990, Macon, GA), Park McArthur (b. 1984, Raleigh, NC), and Jason Hirata (b. 1986, Seattle, WA). Both iterations of 'plus one' will remain on view through July 27th, 2024.

 

David L. Johnson (b. 1993, New York, NY) lives and works in New York City. Johnson received a BFA from the Cooper Union in 2015 and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. He is an alumnus of the Whitney Independent Study Program and is a part-time lecturer at the New School and the University of Pennsylvania. Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include: Galerie Thomas Schulte, Berlin (2023); Galerie Noah Klink, Berlin (2023); Art Lot, Brooklyn (2023); Theta, New York (2021). Recent group exhibitions have been held at: Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2023); Chicago Architecture Biennial, Chicago (2023); MoMA PS1, New York (2023); Artists Space, New York (2022). Johnson's work is held in the public collection of The Studio Museum in Harlem.

 

Emilio Martínez Poppe (b. 1993, Baltimore, MD) is an artist and educator based in New York. Emilio earned an MFA and MCP from the University of Pennsylvania, a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art, and was a studio fellow in the Whitney Independent Study Program. Collective research projects include BFAMFAPhD and Pinko Magazine. Emilio is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Graduate Communications Design department at Pratt Institute and manages the Civic Arts Program at the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Recent exhibitions include Petrine, Paris; Queens Museum, CUE Art Foundation, and The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, New York; Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Philadelphia; and Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, Amsterdam.

 

Michelle Cho (b. 1996, South Korea) lives and works in New York. Cho received a BFA from the Cooper Union in 2019, and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022. Recent group exhibitions include the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee (2024); Fragment Gallery, New York (2023); island Gallery, New York (2023); CICA Museum, Gimpo (2023); Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, New York (2022); Vox Populi, Philadelphia (2022).

 

Bat-Ami Rivlin (b. 1991, Israel) is a NYC based sculptor, educator and writer working with found and surplus objects. Rivlin holds an MFA from Columbia University, NY and a BFA from SVA, NY. She is the recipient of the Socrates Sculpture Park Annual Fellowship, Two Trees BSI fellowship, A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship, NADA House Studio fellowship, NYFA IAP fellowship, NARS Foundation Residency, among others.

 

Miguel Bendaña (b. 1988, College Station, TX) lives and works in New York. Recent exhibitions include And Now, Dallas (solo, 2022); Lomex, New York; Mercy Pictures, Auckland; Lulu, Mexico City; X Bienal de Nicaragua, Managua.
